I got a brand "new" (vintage), long-coveted 50s dress in the mail on Saturday! When Dave suggested we attend the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum that afternoon, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to debut the dress. It was such a gorgeous day, I almost didn't need my coat!



We also saw the first little flowers of spring; I asked Dave to take a snap for me. They were such a pretty purple. Grow big, little ones!




The manuscript library is in a really pretty old church.


Crowd shot! I don't know; I'd like to share more pictures of the interior, but I don't want to overwhelm you guys? They're mostly just crowds with pretty windows in the background, so maybe not.

I was very surprised to find that the ladies of Worn Fashion Journal were there! I thought that maybe the girls manning the table were local contributors or something, but it turns out that they were actually the founders/editors! I was so flabbergasted to see them there that I really wish I'd stopped to talk to them a little bit more! They were so nice, and one of them even liked my dress(!). I'd only ever looked at the website in passing, and have never come across the print edition, but after flipping through issue #9 I knew I had to pick it up. Let's just say that I'm now officially a fan. I'm really impressed that these young women are producing such an amazing, quality publication. The photos are gorgeous, the words are engaging, the subjects are actually topics I'm interested in, and the paper feels really, really nice in my hands. And somehow it's all really affordable? I'll definitely be getting a subscription when I have the extra cash. Good job, girls!

Robot Art Show!

Dave's showing some paintings in a gallery for a ROBOT-THEMED art show (awesome!!!) - it opens tomorrow night! The robot with the exploding chest in the banner on the right is one of his pieces. Spring Style Inspiration: Luella

Spring is finally showing her pretty face in Buffalo! Okay, I say "finally," but the truth is that early-to-mid- March is pretty early for spring to break around here. Nevertheless, I am so, so, so glad to see her. I'm starting to bust out the dresses and reveling in wearing color once again. No more winter neutrals for me! The ever-wonderful label Luella is providing some pretty sweet inspiration for me in this regard. Plenty of pop-in-your-mouth, Easter eggtastic colors, anchored with just a few basic neutrals for good measure. I love the 60s-inspired suiting, ladylike coats, and structured separates. Oh - and that polka dot print! Just what I'm craving right now. Witness the magic:

Spring Cleaning My Closet!

Well, lately there hasn't been much vintage on this blog, has there? I'm afraid that's still the case today, although I do have a bunch of vintage reproduction items to show you! I have a bunch of actual vintage items waiting to for their time to shine in an etsy update, but until we can work out our photography kinks, I've been cleaning out my closet and putting some choice items up for sale on ebay. I'm unearthing a few favorite springlike, high-end designer items with vintage appeal that I either no longer wear or that no longer fit me, including a gorgeous Max Studio 30's inspired dress and a mod-style Free People skirt!

Winter festival!

This past Sunday was pretty mild weather-wise, so Dave and I decided to check out Buffalo's first Powder Keg Festival downtown. They built a world-record-breaking ice maze:

and shut down part of the freeway so folks could go tubing down one of the exit ramps (genius!!):

I guess they also had sports and booze and stuff. We were too late to go tubing, but we did get to check out the ice maze. Here we are trying out one of the many ice benches inside. It was very cold and our bottoms were soaked!





It was a really fun experience; perfect for easing the late-February winter doldrums. Everyone I passed was laughing and having a great time. Good job, Buffalo!

Winter vs. My New Vintage Coat: The Ultimate Battle ( ...or not)

Winter is really getting my goat! We've got another snowstorm on the way, and it's supposed to last until Friday. Spring obviously isn't coming around the corner anytime soon, so I might as well make an effort and try to embrace winter as much as I can. Winter's like a houseguest who has outstayed her welcome, but I only get to see that houseguest once a year so I might as well make the most of her visit! ...or something. Not the most perfect analogy, but you get what I mean.

Maybe it's almost a good thing that winter's sticking around for a bit, since I just found this amazing vintage, fur-trimmed coat at an estate sale recently! Dave and I originally took these photos for etsy shop purposes, but after seeing the pictures I'm not so sure I want to sell this. It's so cozy and classically, perfectly tailored. I love the shawl collar!



The photos ended up being too overexposed to use for the shop, and both of our cameras are currently out of commission, so I guess I have time to decide whether or not to keep it until new photos can be taken.

It just won't stop snowing here in Buffalo! I'm so jealous of all those lucky gals who live in warmer climes, and who are already blogging photos of themselves picnicking in pretty dresses. It's just not fair! I haven't been too inspired to put much effort into the way I dress lately; the cold weather is just so depressing. Also, part of my day job requires making deliveries around town, so I can't go exactly go prancing around in little dresses in the Buffalo winter while I'm at work. It just ain't happening.

So that's why I'm posting an old outfit today. I wore this in November, when we had an uncommonly warm, 65F degree day! Oh, please, please let us have another day like this soon! I have some wintery, seasonally-appropriate things in the works for posting soon, I promise (including some etsy updates I'm very excited about), but for now I just want to daydream.
