Sunday Girl

Aw man, I am behind in blogging... this outfit is nearly two weeks old! And it is still tights weather here in Buffalo... grrr. Anway, I wore this on Mother’s Day. In honor of my mom, I carried this amazing vintage house purse that was hers in the 60s. Each side is hand-painted with amazing detail – vines, flowers, birds in a birdcage, bricks, and a little sign with her name on it. I spent a lot of time admiring it as a child, and when she gave it to me a few years ago I was beyond thrilled. It’s delicate, so I only bust it out occasionally.

Also, I am very much in love with this new skirt! The knit detail along the bottom makes me really happy, and it’s surprisingly versatile. Actually, come to think of it, I'm wearing it now! Whoa.

1930s Color Fashion Film

Dave forwarded this charming little 30s fashion video on to me, knowing I would like it (he was right). I just had to share it with you, too! Make sure your speakers are on, as the ladies describe their clothing in a most adorable fashion.

This past weekend, the weather was finally finally finally nice enough to do a proper outfit post without freezing! This is what I wore for a lovely, perfect day walking, estate saling, dining, and gallery-going with my cute husband.



I bought this dress a couple of months ago from Lauren of Dear Golden, who very kindly answered a flurry of excited questions and put it on reserve for me after I saw a preview in one of her tweets. It's done up in a gorgeously sumptuous wool crepe (perfect for spring/fall transition weather), has pockets (yay!), and - best of all - is studded with teensy metal stars. They're not sewn on with no flimsy thread, either - the metal is studded right through the fabric. They're here to stay, and they mean business. It doesn't fit quiiiiiite right in the bust, but I'm kind of wearing it anyway. I mean, look at it. You would too.

Selling The Lake & Stars

Just thought I'd pop by. I was hoping to be happily updating this blog on a regular basis again by now, but persistently cold & rainy weather + dark skies = no photo ops! But I do have a couple of intriguing, post-worthy items up on ebay right now. If you've been reading this blog for a long time, you might remember my Lake & Stars obsession. Well, last year I was able to get my hands on the "Truce" camisole via Gilt Groupe, final sale, and it didn't fit!



It is just too dreamy, and I'm so sad it didn't work out. I'm offering it for half of what I paid for it, right here.

I also have this sweet, Edwardian/20's-inspired silk camisole from Guess! It's something I used to love, but no longer fits.

Snooty poodle is very snooty.

Remember how I told you that I have a weakness for kitsch? I wasn't kidding - I have so much more to show you! So very, very much more. One kitsch staple for which I have been hunting (for years!) is a poodle figurine. I like 'em a lot, and they are plentiful, but none of them have really SPOKEN to me, ya know? Until I met Snooty Poodle at an estate sale a couple of months ago.

Snooty Poodle is very smart; you can tell because she wears glasses. I think she might work in a library. She is also obviously quite fashionable, and takes pride in her pink organza ribbon and luxurious fur. She thinks she's better-dressed and more dignified than me.

Just look at her, judging me.

I realize that she was a questionable purchase at best, and more than a little bedraggled, but she only cost me a dollar. And the best part? She makes me smile every time I walk past her! That's worth more than a dollar and some embarrassment, yo!

Waiting for spring.

Buffalo has rather schizo weather each spring. A day or two here will be sunny and almost warm, and a day or three there will be cloudy and windy - maybe even snowy. I'm really looking forward to the warmer days ahead, when I can just throw on a lightweight dress and pair of sandals and call it a day. These photos are from Dave's cousin's wedding last July, when I employed just that sort of dressing technique. Here's hoping I can do it again soon!

The wedding was at the Botanical Gardens, which are beautiful. After the lovely ceremony, guests had the opportunity to wander the grounds before heading to the reception. Neither Dave nor I had been there in years, so we were glad for the chance to check it out and snap some totes awesome blog pix.

I was so excited to get a picture of this flower called "Confident Pride" (because that's hilarious), but realized later that it's actually "Confederate Pride," which is considerably less cool.

Giallo chair

If you didn't already guess, then you need to know that I have an insatiable taste for kitsch. So when Dave and I saw a photo of this chair in a preview of a local estate sale, we both flipped. The estate was that of a lady who was an interior designer in the 60s, and she had sooooo many amazing pieces that I would love to own, but this was the one that we both set our hearts on (as well as being the only thing in our price range). It reminds me of something that should be on the set of a 60s Italian horror film, straight out of any of Mario Bava's Technicolor sixties-does-Victorian giallo flicks or even Suspiria (my all-time favorite spooky movie)! Or maybe a Fellini film, like Juliet of the Spirits.

We debated leaving it there and going back another day later in the sale to see if the price dropped, but after watching other folks' reactions to it we knew we'd have some pretty stiff competition and there'd be no way it would still be around. After some hemming and hawing about the price on my part, we took it home! Dave said to regard it as an art piece. I like buying art.

I so wish I could've met the lady who originally owned this. Walking around her home, you really got a feel for her sense of style, and it was so in line with my own that I think we could've found plenty to gab about. When Dave spoke to her caretaker, she told us that the woman attached the rhinestones herself, then placed the chair directly across the entryway so "you'd walk into the room and the first thing you'd see is those eyes glinting in the light and staring back at you." That sounds exactly like something I would do!! We also think she painted and upholstered the chair herself, refurbishing an old piece. I should mention here that she had respect for history and antiques, as she was a board member of the local historical society and decorated the Teddy Roosevelt Inaugural Site in Buffalo.
